When Did NHL Goalies Actually Get Good?
Просмотров 13 тыс.3 года назад
"No wonder Gretzky scored all those goals, have you SEEN the goaltending in the 80s??" I guarantee you have either said or heard that phrase more than once in your life. There's a belief in the online hockey community that no goalie from the 80s or 90s, other than Dominik Hasek or Patrick Roy, could survive in the modern NHL, and that all of them were terrible stand-up goalies who shouldn't hav...

Goalie Graveyard - The Vancouver Canucks' Road to Roberto Luongo
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
"We've seen some bums, 'cuz playin' here is hard Vancouver had been a Goalie Graveyard 'Till Luongo" When #Canucks Coach/GM Mike Keenan traded veteran goaltender "Captain" Kirk McLean in January of 1998, it began an eight year long struggle to find a new number one goaltender. In this video, I'll take you from the start of the McLean/Irbe led 1997-98 season, up to the acquisition of Roberto Luo...
How Kirk McLean became the face of Stand-Up Goaltending
Просмотров 34 тыс.4 года назад
#FreeTheSkate #Canucks There has never been a Canucks team more beloved than that of the 1994 squad. Revered at almost a god like level in Vancouver to this day, the '94 squad, led by Linden, Bure, Ronning, Courtnall, Adams, and a list of others, all anchored by "Captain" Kirk McLean. This video cover's Kirk McLean's career in broad strokes, from the day he was drafted up to the '94 Stanley Cup...
RELAPSE 2: The Story Behind Eminem's Cancelled Album
Просмотров 79 тыс.5 лет назад
LINK TO ORIGINAL ARTICLE: www.reddit.com/r/Eminem/comments/5ydo7m/about_relapse_2_the_transition_into_recovery/ Relapse is easily Eminem's most underrated album. Since the release of the follow-up album, Recovery, a cult following has slowly built behind Relapse, as it serves as the final stand of the old school Slim Shady. However, what people fail to realize is that Relapse had a planned sequ...

Hello vs. Business - Eminem Mashup (Relapse Without Accents)
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.6 лет назад
Relapse was not received well... It's not the worst album Eminem has ever put out, but it definitely was a major missed opportunity. Relapse isn't bad, it's just weird. The accents in the "Shady 2.0" songs are a major turnoff, and the lack of substance in some songs also hurts the album. One of the major positives of Relapse, however, was in the beats. Dr. Dre absolutely brought his A-Game for ...

Survivor Series 2015 Intro - Deadly Game
The fact we couldn't replace a crap goaltender shows how bad Vancouver is with goalies and sure we have a goalie that's good now the only problem is he's always injured so his skill you can't even use it when you need it 😂😂😂😂😂 and Luongo one of the most overrated goalies to have ever came to the game

Goalies have always been good. Just look at Bill Duran of the Boston bruins in the 1930s. Or Terry Sawchuk of the 1960s. 300 wins used to get you into the Hall but now a goalie needs 400-500 wins to get in. But they play more games than they used to.

WOW! I might be a bit late to the dance! But Thank you for posting!! Despite I now live in Arizona, & the Coyotes is a topic for a different day, it was incredible to watch & be a part of! Obviously time goes on, trust me I was balling my teenage eyes out watching CBC in '94. Somewhere I've got that VHS tape, BURE BURE! An honour to see this & Go Canucks Go!!
The stand up style is a technique that requires discipline, reflexes, agility, and a good vision of the ice. It is not an effort of never going down, it is an effort of going down only when necessary.

My dad got so pissed when wwf had the nwo edit over this video when the nwo came in '02 😆
The concept of encore is genius
amazing video
i remember creating X Pac in Just Bring It because Albert had this song

WRONG!!! Blackhawks Chelsea Daggee #1.
I also like the Canucks old horn better, but put holiday with it? Oh baby
As a Flyers fan, I love the old horn so much more (the 1998-2005 one)
2:14 what the fuck is Rhett Warrener doing just standing there
Hell, I cried in 2002 when it aired and I just cried again watching it in 2024. Have a lot more that makes me want to cry now than I did in '02. Wish they hadn't brought in the nWo then but it is what it is. So much has changed. I was a huge fan of the WWF but it never felt the same after they rebranded to the 'E. I haven't watched the current product in over 15 years but had a lot of great memories in the eleven years that I really followed it (1992-2003). But, as you get older, you realize that professional wrestling is often more real than the real world. Having lost family and friends over the past several years, it didn't take me long to weep. Rest in Peace to the World Wrestling Federation.
Not to take anything away from Kirk McClean on that save in OT vs the Flames but Robert Reichel really put that shot in a bad spot. Up high into the corner and the game was over. Instead he put low and towards the middle of the net. Kirk McClean had no choice but to make that save honestly.
Skating and hockey stick improvements lead to the goalie downfall in the early 80s. Goalie equipment technology improved along with teams picking up goalie coaches contributed to the goalie resurgence of the late 80s early 90 which lead into the dead puck era and we have been stable since then IMO
How in the fu@k can you not put the Dallas Stars at number 1 or on this list at all?? Who else can say they not only have a song that was made for them and from a band as big as Pantera.
When the Shockmaster’s entrance theme is better than yours….
All eras were good in their own right, some had to play without mask, some had to play with not so good equipment and nowadays goalkeepers are able to do more due to better face mask and better equipment.
This is a terrible entrance theme
Plz do another goal horn ranking
I remember watching this game and when you're watching it you don't pick up right away what's going on, but eventually you start to wonder, "Do the Leafs ever have the puck in the Devils' end?" I don't think they were keeping all the fancy stats they keep now, but it would be interesting to see some, like time of possession, especially time of possession in the offensive zone for the Leafs.
I wish this video was in HD
Lol yessss classic may Scott hall 😎😇 may rip 🤘🏾🪒
Goaltending didn't improve nearly as much as the equipment did.
Time to make a new one with the new wrestlers :-)
I love My Mom, Insane, Crack a Bottle, Beautiful, We Made You, Same Song & Dance and Deja Vu is pretty good as well
How dare you title this video like that
In another conversation, looks like the BEST goalie masks were seen in the 70s 😏
Spoiler The Panthers changed their logo, and song
Chief Jay Strongbow 👍👍
R.I.P. WWF
Goaltending was always great in all eras but some eras favored scoring more than others and had different rule changes as what you can do defensively or not... And like all positions goaltending only evolved to get better especially as technique, athletes and gear got better- like all other positions did! But just like you can go back to older eras and all players look slower and less impressive, goaltending will too but is not exception. And that still doesn't mean these goaltenders were not the best of the best in their time... Anyone who saw Dryden or Sawchuk or Glen Hall play will be in awe of the brick wall they could put up in the most clutch moments... But of course the game changes and styles changes so what worked back then in one era will not in a different one. But all great players adapt to their era and can and could readapt to another. Some of the so called bad 80's goaltenders- including the one who got scored on by that perfect Gretzky top corner slapper, Grant Fuhr, Beezer etc- adapted to the 90's and remained dominant if not better due to mastering newer techniques and better goaltending gear- as well as better diet and training regiments... Anyone who think goaltenders only got "good" in the modern era is ignorant and lack the proper knowledge of the history of goaltending past their own era... But watch an old school tendy like Sawchuk or Plant and see where your favorite all-time goaltender got inspired and took their pages of saving magic from- Hasek and Broduer almost replicated exact saves that they learned from goaltenders like sawchuck they studied on film and then evolved it to fit their era and took it to the next echelon! This is how the game improves from one era to the next... Older players passing the baton to the new generation of players that learn the tricks of the trade from the past greats... Anyone who looks down at older era goaltenders and chuckles got to remember that they are not flying, they are standing on the shoulders of giants! And all the greats have always looked up to the goaltenders they grew up with in admiration and studies them and emulated them until they found their own style! Those who don't won't learn anything and will try to reinvent the wheel in failure and won't succeed because they don't learn from the ones who came before them and mastered the position they want to fill... Silly boys!!!!!!
0:43 Bounces up his d*ck
Still hits the mark. We had it so good back then.
Were are the Tampa bay Lightning ??? ⚡ ⚡ ⚡
Was this video meant to be a joke, or satire? I am very confused. I watched the whole video waiting for the part where it is explained how they became the face of stand-up goaltending, but it never came. All this video basically did was very briefly talk about a tiny bit of Vancouver history, if even that. Throughout the entire video, you can see repeated instances of McLean either flopping down, stacking the pads horizontally, or going down on his knees like a modern butterfly position. I thought that when you stand up, it meant standing up? By the way, Patrick Roy heavily influenced the use of the butterfly position, so being a stand-up goalie was not the style anymore. I was actually expecting some Jaque Plante style gameplay here, or at least less ice hugging.
What a fucking company
They need to update this
I remember this theme. Regal was a vicious, scary, but also a hilarious heel lol of all his themes this is my favorite
This was soooo nostalgic - I was tearing up the whole time 🥹🥰 Kirk McLean brilliance forever!!
